Like all professions, I am learning and understanding related  acronyms and jargon language associated with the early learning professional practice landscape.

Acronym – the use of letters to replace words. For example, NIC.
Jargon – words or phrases that are used by a specific group or profession that are not easily understood by people outside of that group. For example, climber.

Acronyms

ELP – Early Learning Professionals – Educators who work with children from infancy to school age and practice in a professional context along with families and other professionals.

ECEBC – Early Childhood Educators of BC – Envisions a society where early childhood educators thrive in a supportive community that values childhood and education.

CCCF – Canadian Child Care Federation – Committed to best practice in early childhood education as they value children. They provide valuable resource for educators, service providers, parent, policy makers, media, business, government and community leaders.

VIHA – Vancouver Island Health Authority – Deliver many types of health care services, e.g. Community care facilities licensing  and communicable disease prevention and control services. Offer Preschool, toddler, and youth aged development, health, nutrition, and safety guidelines. Provide resources for child care options, mental health and child abuse and neglect along with telephone helplines.

Jargon

Big ideas – Concepts that underpin the work of the early learning student and professional.

Professional practice – What you do every day when you work with children, families, and colleagues.

Framework – A document early learning professionals can use to guide decisions about practice. It is an organized plan that can serve as a pedagogical tool. It is meant to be applied with flexibility.
