How can I advocate for affordable high quality child care in BC, is a question I once had.

With the thoughts of “Take Action” in my mind, it inspired me to reflect and share my own journey with child care advocacy with you.

My Experiences with Child Care Advocacy

Through talking with Charlene Gray she guided my to listen to what families had to share in regards to their own life experiences with affordable high quality child care. To then follow through with a letter to the government as there is no room to debate or dispute the real life challenges parents have to face and navigate through for their child care needs.

Charlene also encouraged me to check out the $10aDay Care Child Plan website. Here I learnt more about how I can advocate for affordable high quality child care and how to have a voice with the government child care plans. Check it out, as I am sure you to will learn more about our child care systems from this great website.

When I typed “advocate for quality child care in BC” the first website to appear was the “Coalition of Child Care Advocates of BC”.

Here I became a member with the following benefits:

  • newsletters and electronic updates with important information about child care issues in BC
  • a voice in shaping the child care advocacy movement in BC
  • voting privileges at our Annual General Meetings
  • invitations to work with, hear from and listen to fellow advocates
  • membership with the CCCABC also includes membership with Child Care Now – our pan-Canadian sister advocacy organization

Child Care Now

  • most importantly, the opportunity to work with hundreds of others advocating for a community-based child care system that is high quality, affordable, accessible, publicly funded, and accountable
  •      The CCCABC also supports the $10aDay Plan.

In the New Year 2021 I look forward to learning new ways I can continue to advocate for affordable high quality child care for our BC families. Along with connecting with community members associated with child care action plans.
